DIAGNOSTIC LAPAROSCOPY FOR OVARIAN MALIGNANCY

DIAGNOSTIC LAPAROSCOPY FOR OVARIAN MALIGNANCY

Diagnostic laparoscopy for ovarian malignancy is a surgical procedure used to help diagnose and stage ovarian cancer. It is performed when imaging tests, such as ultrasound or CT scans, are not conclusive or when a suspicious mass is found on the ovary.

During the procedure, a surgeon makes small incisions in the abdomen and inserts a laparoscope, a thin tube with a camera and light on the end, to visualize the ovaries and other pelvic organs. The surgeon can then obtain tissue samples (biopsies) of any suspicious areas for examination under a microscope. In addition, the surgeon can visually inspect the entire abdomen and pelvis for signs of cancer spread.

Diagnostic laparoscopy for ovarian malignancy is a minimally invasive procedure that offers a quicker recovery time and less postoperative pain compared to traditional open surgery. However, as with any surgery, there are risks and potential complications associated with diagnostic laparoscopy. It is important to discuss all options and risks with a qualified medical professional to determine if diagnostic laparoscopy is the best option for individual cases.
